What Is DNS and How It Affects Your Internet Experience
Ever had a website not load, or load really slowly for no clear reason? Sometimes the issue isn’t the website itself—it’s how your device finds it. That’s where something called DNS comes in. Think of DNS as the phonebook of the internet. When you type a website like servit.co.il, your computer doesn’t actually understand that name.
It asks a DNS server: “Where should I go?”
The DNS translates that name into a series of numbers (an IP address), which tells your browser where to connect. Most of the time, you’re using your internet provider’s DNS—and it works fine. But sometimes:
  • A website won’t load even though it works for others
  • Things feel slower than usual
  • Certain websites behave strangely
This can be caused by outdated or faulty DNS. There are a few common reasons:
  • Faster browsing
  • Fixing access issues
  • Better reliability
  • Sometimes improved privacy
Popular options:
  • Google DNS – 8.8.8.8
  • Cloudflare – 1.1.1.1
It sounds technical, but it’s actually pretty simple.
  1. Open “Network & Internet Settings”
  2. Click “Change adapter options”
  3. Right-click your connection → “Properties”
  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4)
  5. Enter:
    • 8.8.8.8
    • 1.1.1.1

  1. System Settings → Network
  2. Select your connection (Wi-Fi / Ethernet)
  3. Click Details → DNS
  4. Add:
    • 8.8.8.8
    • 1.1.1.1

  1. Settings → Network & Internet
  2. Private DNS
  3. Choose “Private DNS provider hostname” and enter:
    • dns.google
      or
    • one.one.one.one

  1. Settings → Wi-Fi
  2. Tap your network
  3. Configure DNS → Manual
  4. Add:
    • 8.8.8.8
    • 1.1.1.1

Yes. This is a basic setting that controls how your device finds websites. Using trusted DNS providers like Google or Cloudflare can often improve reliability. DNS is one of those invisible parts of the internet—
but when it doesn’t work properly, you feel it immediately.
Sometimes, a small change can make your internet experience much smoother.
